Turn recordings into text — right in your browser

Meetings, interviews, voice notes and videos become text and subtitles. Nothing is uploaded.

Transcribing a recording without uploading it

Turning speech into text usually means sending the recording to a transcription service and waiting for the answer. Your meeting or interview sits on someone else's server in between. ScribeFit does the work inside your browser tab instead, using OpenAI's Whisper speech model. The recording is read from your disk and processed where it already is. It is never uploaded.

The speech engine is a one-time download. You press "Download the engine" once, and it is saved in your browser's own storage. After that, transcription works offline. Expect roughly 3 to 10 times faster than real time, depending on your computer and the engine you pick.

MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, OGG, Opus, MP4, MOV and WebM all work — anything your browser can decode.

Choosing the engine and the language

Whisper understands about 70 spoken languages. You pick the language the recording is spoken in. ScribeFit starts with your browser's language.

Text and subtitles

The text appears as it is transcribed, with or without times. Copy it, or download it as a .txt file. Pro adds subtitle files in .srt and .vtt format, ready for a video player or an editor.

Frequently asked questions

Is my recording uploaded?

No. Transcription runs on your own device. The only thing ScribeFit downloads is the speech engine, once, when you press "Download the engine". That request carries no information about you or your recordings.

How long can a recording be?

Up to 10 minutes for free. A one-time purchase removes the limit, so a recording can be any length.

Which languages?

About 70. You choose the spoken language before you start, and it begins with your browser's language.

What does it cost?

ScribeFit is free for recordings up to 10 minutes. A one-time purchase removes the limit and adds the High-accuracy engine, subtitle files (SRT and VTT) and several recordings at once. There is no subscription.
